Operae is an international independent design festival, an event that has enjoyed eight years as part of Turin Contemporary Art Week.
The 2017 edition, curated by Alice Stori Liechtenstein, has been hosted at Lingotto Fiere: 4000 square metres of projects, connected by the common theme Why Design. An opportunity to discover emerging phenomena and think about new independent production and collectable design.
An object is never just an object: it tells stories and conveys meanings. Design becomes the expression of contemporary values, a lens to read our society.
Our visual identity project shows a multilingual Babel in which the statement “why design” by Alice Stori Liechtenstein is printed on a white plastic bag. A surrealistic, metaphysical fetish of our time, suggesting that everything – including design – becomes commodity.
